Wise Up Sessions
The Eskdaill Medical Centre is keen to engage with our younger patients and have set up this dedicated clinic for just this purpose.
Sessions are held on every Wednesday afternoon between 4.00 and 5.00 p.m. when there is a practice nurse available and no appointments are necessary.
The session is used to give the diphtheria/tetanus injection and polio drops according to appropriate protocols.
Young people are reassured at all times that there is strict confidentiality covering any discussion they have with the nurse.
Any suitable topic may be covered between the practice nurse and the young person. This may include diet, weight, exercise and any other topic requested by the teenager. It is also possible for the important subjects of safe sex and contraception to be discussed.
The session is held on an informal one-to-one basis, with appropriate entries made in the young person's medical record.
The young person will be invited to attend again as necessary e.g.
• to continue discussion
• to monitor weight
• to stop smoking
Referral to a GP or an appropriate agency (e.g. Bodywise) will be suggested as necessary.
Leaflets covering all aspects of healthy lifestyles will be provided for the young person to take away and read.
