CHILDREN
Please read the FAQs for the children's influenza vaccination: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/child-flu-vaccine/
GP surgeries offer the nasal vaccine to children born between 01/09/2017-31/08/2019.
Children born before 01/09/2017 will be vaccinated at school. We can offer the vaccination to the children who are of school age but have a condition that puts them at risk of flu.
Children who miss their flu vaccine at school need to be re-booked by parents by calling the 0-19 Hub on 03001111022 option 4. We are not able to vaccinate healthy children of school age.
Children born after 31/08/2019 are not eligible unless they have a condition that puts them at risk of complications from flu. This age cohort will receive the injectable flu vaccine.
Please read the questions below and if you answer "yes" to any, do let us know when booking as it may deem your child unsuitable for the live vaccine. All these questions will be asked during your appointment.
- Does your child have an anaphylactic reaction to eggs that require admission to hospital intensive care?
- Is your child receiving salicylate therapy? (i.e. aspirin)
- Is anyone in your household currently having treatment that severely affects their immune system (e.g they are receiving chemotherapy, taking oral steroids, have had solid organ transplant)
- Is your child currently taking any oral steroid medication?
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL ELIGIBLE PATIENTS TO HAVE A FLU JAB WITH US.
We had to order stocks last autumn and vaccines will be wasted if not used.
Without a seasonal flu jab eligible patients will be at risk of developing serious complications from catching flu, such as pneumonia. Most people experience no complications after a flu jab, but you can sometimes get a sore arm, mild fever or chills. These symptoms usually settle within a few days and since the injection does not contain any live virus, contrary to popular belief, it cannot give you flu.
